Electrical Supervisor (Data Centre UPS & Battery Systems)

Newport

Job Brief

Our client is looking for an experienced Electrical Supervisor to lead a specialist team on a high-tech data centre project in Newport. This is a critical role focusing on the installation of mission-critical power systems.

The successful candidate will act as the working site lead, supervising a dedicated team of 4–6 electricians. You will be responsible for overseeing the precise assembly and connection of UPS infrastructure and battery systems, ensuring all work meets the stringent technical specifications of a data centre environment.

📋 Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Directly supervising 4–6 electricians, ensuring high productivity and “first-time-right” quality control on all terminations.
  • UPS & Battery System Installation: Overseeing the final positioning of UPS cabinet sections, bolting units together, and installing loomed cables between sections.
  • Battery Assembly: Supervising the positioning, bolting, and assembly of battery cabinets, including the physical installation of batteries and battery links.
  • Technical Terminations: Ensuring DC and Control cables are correctly installed from battery cabinets, including precise lugging, testing, and torquing to specific values.
  • Quality Assurance (QA): Managing the QA process to record and track all installation stages, ensuring 100% compliance with pre-lugged cable connection standards.
  • Safety Management: Enforcing strict site-specific RAMS and conducting daily briefings to maintain a zero-harm environment in a high-voltage switch room setting.

✅ Candidate Requirements

  • Skills Card: A valid ECS Gold Card (Electrician) with a SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.
  • Experience: Proven experience supervising electrical teams, specifically within data centres, UPS installations, or industrial switch room environments.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert knowledge of cable lugging, electrical testing, and the correct use of torque tools for mission-critical connections.
  • Leadership: Strong ability to manage a small team and take responsibility for strict project milestones.
  • Tools & PPE: Full set of electrical supervisor hand tools and full 5-point PPE.

🛡 Responsible Recruitment & JSL Compliance Notice

In response to the UK’s shifting labour enforcement landscape and the introduction of Joint & Several Liability (JSL) in April 2026, our agency operates to the highest possible compliance standards to protect our clients from unbudgeted tax liabilities.

  • Eliminating the “Connected” Risk: Under JSL rules, a client becomes directly liable for unpaid taxes if their agency is financially connected to the umbrella company used. We have no financial or structural ties to any umbrella provider, ensuring an independent and compliant supply chain.
  • High-Risk Sector Protection: HMRC has identified Construction as a primary target for enforcement. We mitigate this risk by providing full, real-time audit trails for every worker.
  • Real-Time Auditing (SafeRec): We utilize SafeRec to provide monthly, independent audits of all payslips. This ensures that PAYE and NICs are calculated correctly and that “due diligence” is backed by actual data.
  • Defence Against Liability: The new legislation states that “having undertaken due diligence” is not a valid defence against liability. Our systems are designed to provide the proven compliance that HMRC demands to protect your business.
  • Single-Supplier Transparency: We operate a transparent, non-subcontracted supply chain, ensuring that every worker on your site is fully traceable.
